Dear Parishioners,

In the scripture readings this weekend Abram’s faith is sealed with a covenant initiated by God, our light and our salvation. The Transfiguration of Jesus prefigures the transformation in glory to which we are called by our sharing in the paschal mystery – the dying and rising of Jesus. Thank you to all who are supporting our fundraising endeavours – the Easter Egg raffle and who have offered to bake for our Mother’s Day stall – still plenty of opportunities – every little bit helps. This weekend we will begin a parish survey over the next 3 weekends to give all parishioners an opportunity to express how we are doing as a Parish and what we could do better and what you might like to see in our parish. Please take the time to fill it out and return it as soon as you can or complete it online. We have received a great response to our proposed Parish pilgrimage in 2026. Let us continue to pray for
our parish community and one another.

Easter Egg Raffle

We continue with our Easter egg fundraiser this weekend and each weekend until Palm Sunday, 13 April. Tickets for the huge Jars of eggs and baskets: $5 each or 3 for $10. Please support us as we work to support our parish. Please keep your winning tickets as you will need them to claim your prizes.

Our Lenten Journey to Easter

Each Friday during Lent there will be Stations of the Cross at 7pm with Confessions during the Stations.

On the First Friday of March (7th) and April (4th) there will be Holy Mass with Stations of the Cross and Confessions during the Stations.

At the Shrine: Each Friday during Lent there are Stations of the Cross led by Br Louis at 10.15 (after 9.30am Mass in the Church).

Sacred Triduum

Holy Thursday (17 April)

Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7pm

Silent prayer in the old hall until 11pm

Good Friday (18 April)

11am – Stations of the Cross in the Parish Church

3pm – Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion

N.B. There will be no Confessions on Holy Saturday

Prayer for children preparing for their First Reconciliation

Dear Lord, We pray for families of children who are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

May their minds and hearts be open to Your loving mercy, and may our sacramental team be guided by Your wisdom.

We ask that the Holy Spirit provide us all with knowledge and faith to understand the beauty of Your love through this healing Sacrament.

STRENGTHENING OUR FAITH. In today’s Gospel Jesus takes three of his disciples aside and reveals himself to them in his glory as the Son of God. His aim is to strengthen their faith in him as they make the difficult journey to Calvary. Jesus does something similar for us in the Sunday Eucharist. He invites us to step aside from our daily chores to pray, to listen to his word and be nourished by him. Strengthened, we go out from Mass ready to take up our journey along the way of the cross

A reading from the book of Genesis
God made a covenant with Abraham, his servant.
Taking Abram outside the Lord said, ‘Look up to heaven and count the stars if you can. Such will be your descendants!’ he told him. Abram put his faith in the Lord, who counted this as making him justified.
‘I am the Lord,’ he said to him, ‘who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to make you heir to this land.’ ‘My Lord, the Lord!’ Abram replied. ‘how am I to know that I shall inherit it?’ He said to him, ‘Get me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove and a young pigeon.’ He brought him all these, cut them in half and laid each half opposite the other; but the birds he did not cut in half. BREAKING OPEN THE WORD

PRAYER IS KEY

On this Sunday we accompany Jesus up a mountain with three of his first-called disciples, Peter, John and James. The intention of Jesus’ mountain-ascent, as Luke notes, is ‘to pray’.
Luke locates this event at the beginning of Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem, where suffering and death await. This journey will occupy almost half the Gospel.
Luke’s Jesus is a man of prayer who instructs his disciples, Luke’s audience and us on how to be authentic in a culture where status and materialism reign. Prayer is key. Like the prophets of the First Testament, Jesus, the prophet speaks truth and confronts compromised leadership. This will come at a high cost.
Luke’s Jesus knows this. The mountain is sacred, perceived as closer to the heavens and God’s abode. Jesus prays to God seeking discernment in what will unfold. This prayer, in which the disciples are also caught up, brings him into communion with two First Testament figures, Moses and Elijah, representatives of the Torah (Law), whom Israel believed inspired their life, and the Prophets (represented by the Prophet Elijah). Their presence in Luke’s reminder that God’s loving accompaniment and revelation to the Israelites continued through Jesus into Luke’s day. This scene is helpful for our Lenten journey. Prayer, especially in times of struggle and the search for discernment, is key.
